The project supported by UL Mutual will be led by SOCODEVI whose activities in Vietnam are mainly funded by Global Affairs Canada. Through this initiative, members of these cooperatives will benefit from a modern transformation unit for fruits such as pomelo, pitaya and grapes. Fruit juice extraction as well as its marketing will help farm households minimize losses and increase their income. A dozen jobs for women will be created as a result.
Through its cooperative business model, UL Mutual has been a member of the SOCODEVI network for several years. “Solidarity is a value firmly embedded within our Mutual, and in our eyes, seeing Vietnamese producers unite around a structuring project shows just how strong and rich is the cooperative model to which we have been committed for 130 years,” noted Mr. Christian Mercier, Chief Executive Officer of UL Mutual.
This project is part of a development process in Vietnam driven by SOCODEVI, which purpose is to improve the income and livelihoods of more than 10,000 households in five provinces of this country.
